A website that allows people to post and share about their energy saving techniques. The application code will be open source to allow people to use the app idea but apply it to different fields like water savings, food savings etc... It is crowdsourced because anyone can share their ideas on sustainability goals. Each post will be ranked by people that use the app. Furthermore, we will use ads revenue to plant trees and contribute to charities. Each month, users can vote to decide to which charity the revenue will go.
The crowdsourcing aspect:
Our idea is a website that allows people to post all kinds of tips, techniques or methods to reduce their energy consumption. Each user can create an article on the site in which he/she explains his/her idea to reduce his/her ecological impact. Each article can be commented and liked by users. A ranking is established according to the number of comments and "I like" which automatically sorts the most relevant content. The site relies on donations from users to pay for the server. The server itself will only be supplied with electricity from a renewable energy source such as solar panels, a dam or a wind turbine. The site features ads from companies that respect and understand the issues of sustainable development. The income from these ads will then be donated to associations in order to promote ecological benefits.
The open source aspect:
We will assume that the best techniques proposed to save electricity will receive the most votes from users, who will have tested their techniques at home and possibly shared their results on the site, which will encourage other users to do the same. Users who will try the techniques and share their results on the site will help to find the best saving techniques, but also the bad ones. Nowadays, everyone can share what they want on the Internet, which increases the number of false information. The increase in false information has even caught the attention of the big Facebook, which has published "10 tips for spotting false information". Our site would allow us to find the real, good solutions, but also those that do not work thanks to the participation of the community. A good electricity saving technique could receive recommendations from other users to obtain better results. This platform, allowing to find the real solutions, could also be applied in other sectors or other issues, the fact that it is open source will allow its replication and adaptation to different issues. In addition, many improvements to the site would be made by the community, which would be able to add new functionalities and adapt the code to new technologies. Energy saving techniques will always be up to date, with the possibility for users to always share new techniques with new inventions, products, apartments or houses. Sharing the code on our site will help to gain the user's trust, as they will be able to see exactly how the site works. The detection of vulnerabilities by its users will also quickly secure the site against any new type of vulnerabilities or computer attacks.
The community will propose upgrades and modifications of the source code via github. It will then be decided what modifications are made based on the number of positive review of said modification. (Crowdsourcing)
