What is art?

Art is passion.

What if there is no art in your life?

Art education has been overlooked in China for many years.

Due to the lack of time,

And involvement in art...

People generally ignore its importance,

And consider themselves distanced from art.

To enlarge the idea of art

To include the whole creativity.

And if you do that,

Every living being be an artist

An artist in the sense that he can develop his own capacity.

AnrtYourLife is an online space designed for everyone in China.

To share their art creation,

Exchange thoughts within the community,

To collaborate,

And witness the birth of possibilities.

A Mini-program in WeChat,

Everything is natural, powerful and intimate.

Why ArtYourLife?

ArtYourLife relates closely to Quality Education,

Through individual creating and co-creating,

And artistic experience,

Everyone has access to art.

Games, hands-on activities, off-line flash-mobs,

ArtYourLife encourages you to make your first step into art.

Here, you can share every inspiration within your daily life.

The weird shaped bread you bake,

The small miracles you encounter,

The spark of your soul,

Explore the notes to a harmony.

Discover words to create poetry.

Make a real difference.

By allowing the progressive development of creative minds,

One becomes a responsible citizen of the world

and guarantor of a sustainable future.

Here, art is about ideas instead of techniques.

Here, art looks for participants more than experts.

Record the art about you.

And art your life.

*1) What is the problem?*

  • The lack of art education in China
  • People confront heavy burdens from their works and studies that hardly can they realize the importance of art and creativity in China.

What data do you have to back that up?

  • Target user:
  1. Students from art schools
  2. Ordinary people who have interests in art
  3. People who have a lot of spare time
  4. Experts in the field
  • Relevant statistics:
  1. The percentage of students choose to study art or science
  2. Only a few hours are spent on art courses in school (45minutes in primary school; no art courses in high school)
  3. Deficient access to art
  4. Number of graduates from art school each year

What does this problem have to do with the SDGs? (target/indicator)

  • Quality education: "Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all."
  1. Target 4.2; 4.3; 4.4; 4.5; 4.a
  2. Indicator 4.2.1,4.2.2; 4.3.1; 4.4.1; 4.5.1; 4.a.1
  • Relevant to all SDGs

*2)    What is your proposed solution? (Vision & Scope)*

  • Help people get aware of the importance the art education
  • Bring influence to them through and  seeing and experiencing via our platform

What organizations (in Geneva) are you reaching out to?

  • The Embassy of Foreign Artists (EoFA) EoFA’s primary goal is to welcome visiting artists and establish programming that encourages interaction with the general public, be they professionals, amateurs or just curious. EoFA also organizes large-scale events where local and visiting artists from various artistic practices (music, dance, performance art, installations, readings, etc.) can meet and collaborate.
  • SOCIÉTÉ DES ARTS : the Arts Society offers all those interested in art, culture or economics the opportunity to improve their knowledge and exchange their ideas. It strives to promote young talents in the fields of fine arts (awards, art scholarships and exhibitions) and music (recitals of young virtuosos).

  • Pro Helvetia promotes Swiss arts and culture with a focus on diversity and high quality. As the Swiss Confederation’s cultural promotion institution, we support projects that are of national interest.

         What platforms are you testing/modifying?

  • Ideal platform: Mini Program on WeChat

What communities have you identified for your solution?

*3) What have you achieved this week?*

  • Clarified the problem and figured out the importance
  • Drew a preliminary design of the project
  • Enriched the possible contents of our platform
  • Learned from and improved the functions of the existing apps or websites that have similar functions and make our project distinct from them
  • Found out the problems appeared

*4) What are your goals/ tasks and milestones for next week, and rest of the month?*

  • Next week
  1. Well-organized sections
  2. Establish our website
  3. Marketing
  4. Figure out which organization can help us and in what ways
  5. Contact possible organizations
  • The month
  1. Final website
  2. Complete diagrams
  3. Cooperation with organizations
  4. ArtYourLife posters&logos&PPT
  5. If time permits, code the basic prototype of Mini Program

1.Try to reach Chinese governments and seek to collaborate with them.

2.Explain better how this platform benefit users and decide whether the service here is free or chargeable.

We designed a game on MIT app inventor and invited people to test it. The game is called The Mondrian Challenge. The idea is to provide people with 4 colors and 9 empty blocks for them to fill in.

Generally, most participants found the game easy and pleasing, and they did think and analyze before filling the blocks.

However, participants were confused with the point of this game. Initially this game is designed simply to provide users a tool to draw like Mondrian individually, but after the test, we found that actually if you put all these works together, people may understand the works of others and themselves via comparing and analyzing.

To improve this, we decide to change the game to a collaboration game in further version.

P.S. Also, it is quite interesting that the results are varied because the different pattern of different people's cognition. Generally, people with a science or engineering background choose to express abstract concepts such as symmetry in their pictures, while people with an art or design backgrounds use colors to maintain visual balance and harmony.  There are also quite a lot of people choose to make shapes and patterns like letters, sun, flowers, trees.

And other Interesting Discovery:

i. Girls tend to like the color game more than boys.

ii. The white color means different thing for different people. For some it means possibility and hope, while for some it means blank, empty and lack of energy.
