TAP Your Water
Researching and understanding the relationship between tap and bottled water consumption to propose context-related solutions to fight plastic in UNIGE
Sociology - Philosophy Of Social Sciences
Social Practice Theory tries to understand consumption as embedded in social and material contexts, and accounts for habits and routines in its understanding how resources tied to consumption are linked to everyday life.
According to this theory, practices have three pillars: the body (teleoaffective structures), which includes cognitive processes and physical dispositions; the material world, which includes technology and infrastructure; and the social world, which includes norms, values and institutions (Sahakian & Wilhite, 2014).
--> We use this theory to understand why people drink water from plastic bottles and where to intervene so we can change this practice to a more sustainable one.
--> Individual behavior is not targeted but the broader social practice is. It is about giving people the opportunity to change their practice.
